Typical Surfaces and Random Graphs
In this talk, we describe an approach to the problem: What does a typical Riemann surface of large genus look like geometrically? In large part, this is joint work with Eran Makover. As various parts of this program have been described elsewhere (PS], SGB], LFE],RCRS]), we will take the present occasion to describe some of the motivating ideas behind the program. See FERS] for an announcement o...
متن کاملRandom graphs on surfaces
Counting labelled planar graphs, and typical properties of random labelled planar graphs, have received much attention recently. We start the process here of extending these investigations to graphs embeddable on any fixed surface S. In particular we show that the labelled graphs embeddable on S have the same growth constant as for planar graphs, and the same holds for unlabelled graphs. Also, ...
متن کاملLazy Cops and Robbers Played on Random Graphs and Graphs on Surfaces
We consider a variant of the game of Cops and Robbers, called Lazy Cops and Robbers, where at most one cop can move in any round. The lazy cop number is the analogue of the usual cop number for this game. Lazy Cops and Robbers was recently introduced by Offner and Ojakian, who provided asymptotic upper and lower bounds on the analogue of the cop number of the hypercube. By investigating expansi...
متن کاملFractal Dimension of Graphs of Typical Continuous Functions on Manifolds
If M is a compact Riemannian manifold then we show that for typical continuous function defined on M, the upper box dimension of graph(f) is as big as possible and the lower box dimension of graph(f) is as small as possible.
متن کاملRandom Lattices and Random Sphere Packings: Typical Properties
We review results about the density of typical lattices in R. This density is of the order of 2−n. We then obtain similar results for random (non-lattice) sphere packings in R: after suitably taking a fraction ν of centers of spheres in a typical random packing σ, the resulting packing τ has density C(ν)2−n with a reasonable C(ν). We obtain estimates of C(ν). 2000 Math. Subj. Class. 82B05.
